Simple Plaid Baskets From Ikea Tea Towels

How to easily sew cute & simple plaid baskets from Ikea tea towels

Hi there friends, I hope your weekend has been a wonderful one! Mine was rainy and cold which made my northern heart happy! So happy in fact, that I had Christmas on the brain, lol! I am loving this Fall so much, it really started to cool down big time from one day to the next and wow, it feels so good. Which got me thinking about this years Christmas decor. And when I wandered down the Ikea isles and found these cute plaid tea towels, I had to bring them home and not use them to dry my dishes!

Since it’s also time for another International Bloggers Club Challenge and this months theme is cotton, well, little plaid baskets sounded kinda perfect to me! Last months Challenge was about paper, and you can read my post over at Kreativ K [my former blog].

At the bottom of this post, you can find all the other lovely ladies posts links as well, hop over and check them out!!

Ikea is my go-to place for decor many times, as we don’t have Michaels, Target or Hobby Lobby down here in the South of Europe. I’m sure you’ll find other cute tea towels if you don’t have an Ikea close by.

What You Will Need:

2 tea towels

sewing machine

scissors

Instructions:

Fold each tea towel in half and then cut the folded towel in half.

Cut 5-6 cm off the bottom of the folded over towels. Sew around leaving the top open.

Open your sown pouch and lay the sown sides on top of each other. Sew off the tips of the base and cut off.

Repeat with remaining three tea towel parts. When done with the red towels, leave them inside out and insert into the plaid baskets. Fold over top.

Not long ago I also sewed a basket from an Ikea rug. Find out more about it here.

I don’t have my Holiday decor out yet, I think it’s a bit early, but I am ready and I think these two baskets will hold my faux fir trees.

These baskets can be anything! Bread or fruit baskets, they can hold extra hand towels in a guest bathroom and so much more! I love the plaid look this season and although I won’t have my house filled with decor, a few little pops of plaid and color make Holiday decor really cozy!

I hope you got inspired today and go and see what my friends came up with! Thank you so much for the visit!

I remember being blown away by your Ikea rug basket a few months back and these made me go wow too Katrin. What a neat idea and I’ve been seeing the most beautiful tea towels lately. Not plaid unfortunately, but still really pretty. And the pattern is really easy to do too, which makes it such a super idea for quick and easy Christmas gifts.

While reading your tutorial I was wondering how you got the bottom of the basket to be flat. Brilliant method Katrin. Pinning to share, and for my own reference as well. Love these little baskets for Christmas or any time of year. Very practical and pretty.
