How To Have A Cozy Home After The Holidays

I guess we all know, that after the Holiday decor comes down, our homes can feel pretty bare and maybe a little too minimal, right? But it’s only the beginning of Winter, and Winter means cozy and warm, snuggle weather, you name it. So today I want to show you how to have a cozy home after the Holidays, all Winter long! In a very simple way with items you probably have at home already.

How To Have a Cozy Home After The Holidays

1.Texture:

Cozy blankets, baskets, floor pillows, fur & velvet pillows, woven placemats and rugs are key to that cozy feel when you walk into a room.

I recently added that big floor pillow to our living room and it makes such a difference! We don’t have room for two armchairs, yet another sofa, so when we have friends over, someone always ends up on the floor. This makes it so much more comfortable and cozy.

This corner is a bit bare and white and although I love it minimal, the basket adds a nice color contrast. It also is storage to board games.

2. Greenery

I love real plants inside. Our weather allows it to have them outside all year long, but I bring them inside as well. I do have faux plants as well. Ok, not all of the real ones make it, but I choose low key plants, that don’t need a lot of water. I do have a lot of natural light all around the house, but I often forget to water the plants. So ideally, those with little need of it, love it here. My favourites are succulents in all shapes along with rubber figs.

Going back to #1: Texture. You can see how I added a woven placemat underneath the plant and table lamp. Instant cozy feel! Also, the basket inbetween sofa & armchair holds my laptop and remote controls.

I also love adding some fresh green branches to my decor, like these olive branches. Winter greens would look so cozy too!

3. Fairy Lights & Candles

My absolute favourite decor pieces all year round are fairy lights & candles. They add instant cozyness and warmth to any space. Why only have them up during Christmas time?? They look great all year round!

I especially love the smaller bulb light strings. I bought a few before the Holidays.

It looks great Katrin. I love all the texture you have added with the pillows and the pops of subtle color here and there. If I may ask, how long have you had your couch and are you happy with it? I’m thinking of getting one but I have a son who is very tall. Would it be too small for him to sit on?

Thank you friend! I am so happy with our Ikea Ektorp and I would definitely recommend it Mary. It’s such a budgetfriendly couch and you can change out the slip covers if you are tired of them and it really held up great. We have had ours since we lived in Canada, so for about a total of almost 8 years and it has survived a few moves as well! Totally worth it and I’d buy it again!! I don’t think it would be too small for a tall guy! But you can go and try it out at Ikea!
