Here are some of the most exciting food festivals across Europe.


Founded in 1954, the Galway International Oyster and Food Festival is an annual bash on the west coast of Ireland. Pints of Guinness, large platters of shellfish by the bucket load, first class oysters and great live music all combine to make the festival one of the best festival in Ireland. It hosts a formal ticketed opening party with a Saturday night ball for £150 each while the admission to the Oyster tasting costs £110. You don’t want to miss this because the whole town comes to the opening procession. There is also a world Oyster Opening championships, where different teams from around the world contest to shuck the highest number of oysters in the quickest time. The food festival is usually on during Septembers.


The Abergavenny food festival is the most significant date in the Wale’s culinary scene. You should visit the five festival sites around town and try all on the menu from Welsh onion bread to Herefordshire cider. The festival features over 200 exhibitors coming from England and Wales for cooking, tasting, demonstrations, workshops, talks, and competitions. It attracts over 30,000 visitors and has one the winner of the Best Event in Wales in the National Tourism Awards. Abergavenny combines up to 150 stalls selling Welsh produce with demonstration and children’s events at the Sacla Food Academy and some of the best pubs and restaurants offering special festival menus. You also get the chance to learn how to mix the best martini.


The Ludlow food festival is one of Britain’s first food festivals and is now in its 14th year. Over 130 producers set out stalls on the streets of Ludlow, selling stuff from preserves to meats, puddings to pickles. There is more to the festival than trading and eating. The slow Food Marquee offers demonstrations and workshops on authentic cooking techniques, and there are classes for children-friendly recipes such as sushi classes, bread making and a sausage trail to follow around the town. Ludlow’s twin town from Italy and Italy will also set up stalls, and on a Sunday, we have the Magnalonga walk, a nine-mile walk through the Marches with a lot of food experts pub-stops. The festival holds around mid-September.
